Bamberg

Whilst I was in Germany, Melissa and I went to the city of Bamberg for a few days. Located in Northern Bavaria, Bamberg is a beer lover's dream, with an exceptionally high density of brewpubs (ten) for a city its size (around 70,000). Rauchbier, or "smoked beer" is the city's delicious specialty, of which we partook in great quantities. It's called smoked beer because the malted barely is smoked and dried over an open flame. A love it or hate it kind of beer, I loved it, especially the Schlenkerla Rauchweizen "smoked wheat beer". Besides the beer, the small city is very charming, parked along a river in the foothills of Bavaria. Behold!
