Goodbye, Michael Scott

Tonight Steve Carrel's character Michael Scott is leaving The Office. This feels like a watershed American TV moment, reminding me of when Topher Grace left That 70's Show, another favorite comedy of mine. And while The Office has generally declined since Season 2, it's still had more than enough brilliant moments since to keep me watching (though a part of me died during the episode where Pam and Jim had the baby, and during every baby moment since, and whatever made them ever think the cast should actually burst into song in certain episodes is fucking beyond me).

But it has been a fun and humorous ride, good sir! Here's an article on The Atlantic Monthly claiming the American version of the show surpasses the British, and here are some of my favorite Michael Scott quotes of all time:

"Dwight gave a great speech. That's the word on the street, anyway. And I entertained Dwight to no end with my bar story, so I captivated the guy who captivated a thousand guys. Can you believe that? A thousand guys."

"Nobody likes beets, Dwight! Why don't you grow something that everybody does like? You should grow candy."

"People ask me, would you rather be feared or loved, um easy, I want people to be afraid of how much they love me."

"I have Country Crock."

"BFD. Engaged ain't married."

"Sometimes you just have to be the boss of dancing."

That's what you said, sir. That's what you said.

I'm such a puss, I cried when pam ran to him in the airport. and I'm happy the last words he said was "that's what she said".
I loved his confessional after the scene where he gives Oscar that Scarecrow sock puppet. Genius.

I fell off the Jim/Pam train after the marriage, plus they seem a little too smug, which isn't funny to me.
Michael's Last Dundees was also a good ep. His little "intro to the Dundees video" was ten times funnier than the full length Permanent Midnight ep. Seeing Will Ferrell play a dark, recovering foodaholic is funny. I think he's the perfect "interim" boss character. If he were permanent, I would hate him.
I kinda wish Patton Oswalt would move into Dunder Mifflin and take over. Can you imagine? It would be dark, dark, dark which would = funny.
Just google image Patton Oswalt. He has Paper Manager written all over him.
