Today, September 3rd, wraps up the final day of the 3-Day Novel writing contest.
All across Canada, the US, and elsewhere, writers have been sweating it out from midnight, Friday night, until midnight, tonight, in an attempt to write a novel, or most likely a novella, in just three days. This is the 30th year of the contest, which awards publication for the best novel received in a three day period. The writer (or writers, you can work as a team with another writer, which would add an extra smack of insanity to the project) is bound by an honor system that the novel was written only during the three day period, as well as having another person sign as witness that she worked on the novel within that time frame. How crazy would such an undertaking be? Crazy enough. I just found out about this contest today, or I probably would have tried it. Next year? I shall stockpile soda, gummy worms, and maybe pre-order a hookah.
Also, there is a televised version of this contest on Canadian TV, with Canadian authors, so obviously the Canadian Football League and moose attacks aren't absorbing all their time.

Those Canadians! They know good television.
Actually, I was kind of amused by the video snippets on the book tv website. Finally, reality tv for writers.
Could I nap for three days?
I'd be up for entering a 3-day nap contest.
My good buddy Gayleen Froese is/was in that competition. It's brutal good fun. Go Gayleen
Okay, that's good enough for me. I'll cheer for Gayleen, too. She's looks tough and likes Kurt Vonnegut.
Will you ask her what it's like to sit in the middle of a bookstore all day with people looking over your back? I'm guessing it's uncomfortable.
