'Tis Saturday, 'Tis True

Hello from the Merriam Park Library in lovely St. Paul, MN! Warmer and sunnier today, with a chance of couch napping later this afternoon. Around me several people are also surfing the Net, as they call it, and they keep slapping my hand away as I attempt to stroke their hair and tell them what wonderful souls they all are. I like libraries. They are cool. I worked in the massive Rolvaag Library at St. Olaf for two years before graduating to the desolate world of non-library employ. Do you know about Ole Rolvaag? He wrote "The Giants in the Earth" a hundred years ago. It's a about a lonely couple living out on the prairie in the frontier times and how they slowly go crazy and his wife thinks the wind whispering through the prairie grass is actually the sound of giants wielding scythes or something. I haven't read it, but maybe you should. I was the recipient of the Rolvaag Fiction Award once, long ago, and I'm still living off the enormous $100 prize money.

I wish I had a big Victorian house, and in that house was a library and in that library a hot tub and in that hot tub I would sit reading fiction and sipping orange soda.

Now, I must go wander the stacks and pull out random books to peruse. Have a good one, my little bookworms.

I like libraries, too, Bloggy. My mom is a retired librarian, so I have spent many hours amongst the stacks.

Libraries are HOT!
I read Giants in the Earth in high school; it was heartbreaking but good. I didn't realize that it was written so long ago!

Libraries...far out. I drove by one in Burbank today. It had a nice big sign out front. I think I even saw someone walk inside.

Cheers, Snarkster!

Theo has been watching Dora the Explorer and I think she must have visited a library recently because every brick building he sees is a library and he wants to go in. We did visit the UMD library and walk up its gorgeous spiral staircase. He cries when we drive past it and don't go in, which is almost every day.

Ha. Rand, I can totally imagine you roaming the library in your nappy! Until the age of twelve!

Sarah, yes. They are, like, SO HOT!

Matt, I thought Burbank was only in Alaska, until I just looked at my giant wall map. Kudos!

Michelle, that's a sad story. You should distract him by screaming at the top of your lungs every time you drive by that UMD library. If that doesn't work, try speeding AND screaming.

I do not understand why they would not let you fondle their hair...

I miss Rolvaag and it's half floors. Talk about an awesome Hide-And-Seek locale. The comfy chairs. Many a nap.
