But She Wanted My Soul
Blogagaard loves his Bob Dylan. I've seen him twice live, and listened to most of his albums (who likes that 80's born again period, really?) many, many times. My mother, who also loved the rock-n-roll and sometimes traded albums with me, often said I should have been born in an earlier time. The Sixties, the Seventies. That's when I should have started rocking. Oh well...
Don't Think Twice, It's All Right
It ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It don't matter, anyhow
An' it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
If you don't know by now
When your rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window and I'll be gone
You're the reason I'm trav'lin' on
Don't think twice, it's all right
It ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
That light I never knowed
An' it ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
I'm on the dark side of the road
Still I wish there was somethin' you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
We never did too much talkin' anyway
So don't think twice, it's all right
It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal
Like you never did before
It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal
I can't hear you any more
I'm a-thinkin' and a-wond'rin' all the way down the road
I once loved a woman, a child I'm told
I give her my heart but she wanted my soul
But don't think twice, it's all right
I'm walkin' down that long, lonesome road, babe
Where I'm bound, I can't tell
But goodbye's too good a word, gal
So I'll just say fare thee well
I ain't sayin' you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don't mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don't think twice, it's all right

love that song. Have you heard the Johhny Cash version?
Good stuff. Thanks bloggaa.
Nope, haven't heard that cover, SD.
You know, a lot of people have tried to cover this song, but most people agree Bob somehow did it perfect and no one can really touch him on this one. Does Cash come close? I willing to bet yes. Cash sort of went through a cover-obsession near the end of his life, didn't he?
(Thanks, Cappy!)
I find Dylan's voice too whiney, but that's just me.
You would have missed out on GNR had you been born to an earlier time. You do have an 'old' ear if such a thing is possible.
I think Dylan's voice is the best thing that could have happened to him. Would he be anywhere near as respected if he'd been a crooner like later Rod Stewart? He was forced to write great lyrics to make up for his voice...
Rod Stewart is respected? :-)
So what were some of the other 60's & 70's musical artists you listened to growing up? Will you please give your dear sparrows a list of albums from those decades that we should all posess in our collections?
Mikey, reread what I wrote. I was implying later Rod Stewart is NOT respected.
Shannon, that list would take me forever, and I'm lazy. It's nothing out of the ordinary. The Band, Hendrix, Joplin, Simon and Garfunkel, Allman Brothers, Skynard, Deep Purple, etc. If Hippies liked it, chances are I do, too. Interestingly, I've just really gotten into The Grateful Dead and Led Zepplin on my own.
I'm sorry, I didn't specify a number...that counts as a list.
You seem a little huffy today. Are you huffy Oppegaard?
HuffY?
Naw. Whenever I comment at work I'm just a wee bit stressed. There's this tyke running around right now trying to bite things...
Yeah seriously. Usually you only get a little agitated when I voice my dislike of Dylan.
did somebody want your soul?
watch out for the biters
Hmmm, maybe we should go to anger management therapy together, Mike. We can work out all our issues....
SD, somebody always wants all our souls. Watch out.
I'm talking about Martha Stewart, of course.
One of my students bit another one of my students in the arm today (luckily, it was before my class). 16-year-olds.
Beware of Biters, indeed.
You work around children?! God help us all.
kiss kiss
Meh, Dylan doesn't make me angry. You know who does?
Fred Durst.
I pitty the foo who don't know his Bob Dylan. And Eddie From Ohio does a nice cover of this song.
You got that right, Shananigans!
