Who Cares?

Here's a list of writers I don't give a crap about anymore (if I ever did):

Tom Wolfe
Zadie Smith
Dave Eggers
Alice Munro
Dean Koontz
John Grisham
L. Ron Hubbard
Jonathan "Parlor Tricks" Foer
Ann Ryand
Toni Morrison
Tom Clancy
Michael Crichton (his latest book has "echo terrorists" and an anti-enviromentalist essay at the back)
Nicholas Sparks
Dan Brown

Foer is good, Dave. He is. Yes, he has a lot of tricks, but a lot of times they transcend his slight of hand. But I agree with most of your list. Actually, I haven't read most of that list.

I'm not saying Foer's not good. I'm saying I don't care much about him anymore.

Have you read any Dan Brown?

I read the first chapter of that ANgels and Demons book. Blah.

Foer is getting a bad rap. Zadie Smith? But... but... everybody loves Zadie Smith. I actually don't give a crap about most of these people either. Exception Foer. I agree with you BBerg.

Zadie Smith's new novel is multicultural reinterpetation of EM Forester. It's short listed for the Booker. But do I care? No.

Yeah, I'm a firm believer that the first chapter of any book represents that author's breadth of work.

Take Jane Austin for example...

The only author I've ever really cared about is Roald Dahl, and if you disagree with me, read yourself some James and the Giant Peach. Brady knows what I'm talking about.

Also, a wonderful book I love, for fathers and sons to read together, by Roald Dahl: Danny the Champion of the World.

Juvenile fiction, Mrs. Ash. That's where the big bucks are. If you're into bucks. And rabid fans. If you're into rabid fans.

Alice Munro????
She's a genius. I must disagree with her, the others I have no comment on.

Sorry, but Munro stories are so dull I want to shove my face into a cooler full of ice just to shake things up a bit. It also annoys me how many issues of The New Yorker her works takes up, like kudza weeds in the South.

I agree with Mrs. Ash, Roald Dahl rocks. Mrs. Ash, you sound like an intelligent, attractive and spritely sort. Is there a Mr. Ash in the picture?

Poor Noah. No response from Mrs. Ash.
